Invitation

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

„The Polish Society for Scientific Information and the Department of Information Management at the Institute of Information Studies of the Jagiellonian University, in cooperation with ISKO PL (International Society for Knowledge Organization – ISKO), cordially invite you to the 10th National Scientific Conference in the series: Information Management in Science.

The event is scheduled for December 5-6, 2024, and will take place remotely via MS Teams videoconferencing. Following the model of previous editions, the conference will be dedicated to broadly understood issues related to the functioning of information in science, taking into account the context of open science, open innovation, new ICT in a changing world, including the challenges of artificial intelligence.

This year marks 90 years since the publication of Paul Otlet’s most important work, Traité de Documentation (1934), by Editions Mundaneum in Brussels in 1934. It was a significant moment in the history of information science, as well as in the history of information and knowledge organization. Therefore, we wish to pay tribute to Otlet’s work and 're-read’ the Treaty in today’s world of advanced digital technologies.

We invite you to present your own research and share experience related to issues of data, information, and knowledge management in the science and innovation system, as well as the use of new information and communication technologies to optimize the scientific information and communication system. We encourage you to reflect on the challenges of artificial intelligence in the information and communication space of science.

We cordially invite representatives of scientific institutions representing information science, social communication, and related disciplines, employees of the higher education and science system, including universities and academic libraries forming the university library and information system, employees of knowledge and technology transfer centers, as well as representatives from the business sector, entrepreneurs, and local government institutions.

Scope

The subject of discussion will include theoretical issues and practical experiences, in particular:

  • Information processes occurring within the science system – creation, collection, storage, processing, sharing, and dissemination of scientific and scientific-technical information.
  • Information and knowledge management in scientific institutions in the context of AI.
  • Scientific and technological knowledge resources available at universities and research institutions.
  • Creation and utilization of knowledge through modern information and communication technologies; bibliometrics, informetrics, scientometrics, and webometrics.
  • Acquisition, dissemination, and utilization of knowledge as the foundation of the scientific research system, open access to knowledge (research results), and its flow within society; scientific and technological knowledge resources available at universities and research institutions.
  • University libraries and research centers; creating digital libraries, scientific knowledge repositories, and publication databases.
  • Open access to research data – organizational, technical, and legal issues.
  • Intellectual property management and knowledge transfer between universities and enterprises.
  • Innovative methods of scientific communication and knowledge absorption.
  • IT, information, and telecommunications infrastructures for science.
  • We invite you to submit proposals for papers related to the above thematic issues, as well as other problems associated with information management in the science system.
